Larry Adams
Larry was born in Tennessee and raised in Ohio. As a child, he was quiet and reflective and showed an early interest in art. Larry studied at the Art Academy of Cincinnati but is mainly self-taught. The most instrumental portion of his education has come through trial and error. He was influenced by the works of prominent artists, chiefly watercolorists, as he traveled across the country to study at museums and art studios.
Larry has also maintained a 38-year career in the medical arts field. An interest in theatrical art led him to lend his talents to create sets for local and professional theatre productions.
In addition to works in private collections, Larry’s paintings have been shown in regional, national and international exhibitions. His work has apeared in solo and group exhibitions at the Kentucky Museum of Art, The Rarther West Museum of Art, Peterloon Estates, The Virginia McCune Center for the Arts and the University of Cincinnati (UC). While at UC, Larry’s exhibition “Memories” became a part of the students’ curriculum. He also took part in educational sessions and held workshops for senior painting students.
A signature member of the Kentucky Watercolor Society, Larry’s works were selected for the Society’s Aqueous 2001, 2002, 2003 and 2004 exhibitions where he received many awards. In 2004 and 2005, Larry’s work was selected for the prestigious American Watercolor Society’s 137th and 138th international exhibitions in New York.
There is always something personal in Larry’s relationship to his subjects, a quiet narrative that is essential to his art.
