DeVere's drawings and paintings have a unique quality and character that are a direct result of his professional history as a biological illustrator, naturalist, and more than 23 years as president of Cincinnati Museum of Natural History.

DeVere has illustrated several books including Caves and the Birdwatcher's Bible by George Laycock, and Ohio's National Heritage, a joint publication of the Ohio Biological Survey and Ohio Academy of Science
