Steve Wells
Steve Wells is an native Ohio artist, who has been painting and drawing since childhood. As a self taught artist his realistic portraits and landscapes captures the essence of the rural landscapes of Ohio..
His love of rural Ohio has been his main motivation for his Ohio series of Casein and Oil Paintings. Steve’s delicate brush strokes and natural color palette are earthy and warm. A Living history recorded in his paintings.
“I need to paint the living history in our country. My Grandfather built a barn at his Mt. Orab, Ohio farm. He ran out of cut timbers and felled saplings from his land and used them as beams in the barn. You can still see the saw blades on the saplings. My Grandfathers handwork is visible and real, a living history….”
“My hands, my Grandfathers hands guiding me in a surreal sort of way, need to recreate that time and place. I want my painting to be alive.
A living painting, when you have done that, you have done something.”
Steve Wells paintings are currently on display at Row House Gallery in Milford, OH
