Doug White

A longtime woodcarver, Doug has been practicing his craft for almost 30 years, but he began selling his work only when he retired in 2012. For the most part, the Cincinnati artist carves a variety of birds. Doug salvages wood from storm-damaged trees, demolished buildings, and wood left over from timbering operations.

To begin a piece, he researches various bird types, and then creates his own patterns and roughs out shapes using hand gouges or power tools. After the final form is created, Doug adds detail, files and sands the piece, and finishes the work with brushes or an airbrush.
